Two Friday night youth clubs are now running in Liskeard.

The Youth Space for 11- to 18-year-olds is based at the Liskerrett Centre, while the Eden youth club (initially named Ignite) for 11-16s is being run by young leaders from the former Greenbank Church Youth Club.

These leaders have joined Lou Thomas to start the new group which has been getting together informally until a permanent meeting place is found.

The club launched with a fancy dress ball at the Public Hall.

Both Lou Thomas and Cath Hendy, of Youth Space, agree that there is scope for more than one youth club in the town.

Lou said: ‘Some kids like highly active stuff, and some enjoy a more peaceful time, so it’s about meeting people’s needs. We (Eden) are faith-based and the young leaders I work with are also keen to look at starting a new youth church for 16s and over, alongside the youth club.’

Cath says that as soon as she realised another youth club would be starting in Liskeard on Fridays, she made contact with Lou to see how they could all work together.

‘There might be the possibility for all the young people to come together sometimes for activities such as sports,’ said Cath.

The Youth Space will run two sessions at the Liskerrett Centre: 11- 13s will meet from 5.15pm to 6.45pm followed by the 14-18s at 7pm-9pm.

Funded by the Big Lottery, the project is part of the services provided by the charity, Young People Cornwall.
