TWIN brothers who are running the London Marathon as part of the Anthony Nolan team held a fun day at Wheal Tor, Pensilva, which raised more than £250.
Craig Vaughnley, from Pensilva, recently donated bone marrow after being successfully matched with a leukaemia patient on the Anthony Nolan list, while his twin brother Jason lost his father-in-law to cancer.
About 100 people attended the event, which included a bouncy castle donated by Fritz Entertainment, a raffle with more than 25 prizes donated by local businesses, and other attractions.
Craig said he wanted to thank Wheal Tor and everyone who came and supported them, including Keith Richards of Motor Body Repair Specialists, Pensilva, for the company's generous donation.
Craig, who had been on the Anthony Nolan donor register for 20 years before a match was found, has recently returned from London having undergone the treatment necessary to extract his stem cells. They have helped a seriously-ill woman with leukaemia – this being the only information Craig is allowed at present.
He says he plans to write to her through the Anthony Nolan charity to wish her all the best.
'I was told afterwards that I had enough stem cells to give the recipient a great chance of survival,' said Craig.
'This whole experience has changed my perspective of life, and to be given the chance to save a life is an amazing experience I will never forget.'
