SHOCK and sadness have been expressed after the death from coronavirus of a well-known former dentist, actor and choir member .

Mick Boyles, who lived at Higher Tremar near Liskeard, was taken to hospital last Friday and passed away on Sunday.

His wife Ruth, who is also ill with the virus, was at his side when he died.

A tribute on the Sterts Theatre Facebook page, next to a photo of the couple performing on stage, reads: ’Many of you will have fond memories of Mick in a variety of roles; he and Ruth can be seen here in happier times when they were both actors in Cornish Phoenix.

’Mick and Ruth have been Sterts stalwarts for many years. Apart from performing, Mick was a trustee for a number of years, a maintenance man, licensee for the bar and frequent willing volunteer. And this was after he had retired following a long career as a local dentist.

’Mick, you will be missed. Our thoughts are with Ruth and their children.’

Mick was a partner in what is now the Bupa Dental Practice on Windsor Place in Liskeard.

Comments in tribute and sadness have poured onto the Sterts Facebook page, many alluding to the warmth and kindness Mick showed to others and to his ready sense of humour.

One friend wrote: ’I will always remember Mick for the amount of fun and laughter he brought everywhere with him. He will always remain in our memories as a man who always made us smile with his wonderful outlook on life. ’

A former patient said: ’I’m sure I never had a fear of dentists because Mr Boyles was so good at his job. Always smiling and laughing! Fond memories.’

’Mick and Ruth welcomed me to Sterts many many years ago with their love and generous spirit,’ said another theatre friend.

’I can’t believe this virus is so cruel.’
