Tributes have been paid to a popular former mayor who has lost his battle with cancer.

Lieutenant Colonel Ron Overd, 73, served Looe as mayor for seven years before his retirement due to ill health in May 2009.

Described as 'one of the kindest and most respected persons you could ever wish to know' by the current mayor, Michael Joy, Mr Overd started out life as a boy soldier.
