A new bench has been unveiled in memory of Martin Goodship, a Looe character who was fondly known to his many friends as ‘Hamster.’

During his final few months suffering from terminal cancer, friends in the town organised a day of fundraising through fun and music, wearing ‘Kiss Me Quick’ hats to help Hamster and his partner Sue Ellis to enjoy the time they had left together.

Since his death last year the local community has raised £2,300 for a memorial bench which the Looe Harbour Commissioners have given a prime spot next to the RNLI lifeboat house.

More than 60 residents gathered around the bench for its unveiling, showing the esteem in which Hamster was held by all who knew him.
