FRIENDS of a young motorcylist who lost his life in a road accident last year organised a tribute ride to raise funds for the air ambulance.

Jay Dickson, 24, was killed in a collision near Antony on September 5 2019.

“As it would have been Jay’s birthday this month we decided to organise a bike ride as a memorial to Jay at the same time as raising money for the air ambulance” explained organiser Pete Bourner.

With support from BMC Motorcyles, the group decided to ride from Cattedown Road in Plymouth to Antony, and then through Looe, Pelynt, Dobwalls, Duloe, Sandplace and Widegates before finishing at the Chequered Flag café on the A38 near Liskeard where they were met by members of Jay’s family.

Torpoint Ferry managers Paul Davey and Si Jones were very happy to support the event, and put on a special crossing using the third ferry to avoid disruptions or delays for other motorists.

“Riding from Plymouth to Cornwall obviously means crossing the river and, as we were expecting up to 30 bikers to take part, we contacted the ferry office to see if they could help,” said Pete.

Tamar Crossings general manager David List said: “We were delighted to support this charity motorcycle ride.

“Cornwall Air Ambulance does such great work and we were very pleased to be able to help. “

“This was a very special day for everyone who knew Jay “ said Pete.  “As well as taking part in a motorcycle ride in his memory, the 30 motorcyles and 35 people involved helped to raise £140 for Cornwall Air Ambulance.”

“We would also like to thank the Torpoint ferry staff for their support.”
