Trench warfare in Fore Street?
Saltash traders are reeling over yet another potential threat to their trade.
They have just learned that Eurobell are planning to dig up the pavements early next year in order to lay cables for a new phase of expansion.
Chairman of the Chamber of Com-merce Paul Crute said that he has for a Eurobell representative to attend the next meeting of the Chamber so that his members can seek reassurance that the work is scheduled to provide a minimum disruption to their dwindling fortunes.
'It is badly timed, with the bridge work and Eurobell digging up Fore Street at the same time,' commented Mr Crute.
Eurobell spokesman Jim Connor said work would begin in the New Year and the company would be working with the Highways Agency to ensure the minimum disruption. He said that the street would be reinstated to its original condition.
