RAIL users have been left stranded on platforms after trains failed to stop for them. A rail users' group claims that at least five trains failed to make scheduled stops at Saltash and St Germans last week and are asking First Great Western to sort out the problems quickly. The lack of service has left some people left to find alternative transport late in the evening. Roger Creagh-Osborne, chairman of the Saltash Rail Users Group (SRUG), is concerned that not enough warning and information is being given out. He said: 'Nothing has been posted at the stations or on the First Great Western website. 'I would still expect these trains to stop and the train manager should be explaining why passengers could not board and apologise in person. 'On at least two occasions young people travelling from Saltash to St Germans have been left waiting at Saltash late at night. 'On Saturday evening a family with two young children watched in dismay as their train failed to stop.' The group claim that some of the crews are refusing to stop at these two station on safety grounds. SRUG member Richard Bickford said that train crews are claiming that the 'short platforms and curve in the line' are the cause. A spokesman for First Great Western apologised to anyone affected by the trains not arriving at the stations. 'This is a staff training issue which First Great Western takes very seriously, and one we are determined to resolve as swiftly as possible,' he said. 'On the very rare occasions a train does not stop, alternative road transport is always provided at the affected station.'
