A FULL day of live broadcasting was the culmination of 70 hours of training with a local radio station.

Student Cody Evans got involved in the Traineeship programme thanks to a partnership between Liskeard Radio and the Looe branch of Whitehead Ross Education and Consulting.

The initiative is part of a government funded training and social welfare opportunity scheme for 16-24 year olds.

Mary Yates, work coach and facilitator at Whitehead Ross, initially contacted Liskeard Radio and guested on the lunch hour show to publicise the scheme. She then thought it would be perfect for Cody, who’s from Polperro.

After meeting with technical lead at the radio station and teacher, Martin Calvert, a full 70-hour bespoke training programme was conceived. This included all aspects of broadcasting, presentation, audio editing, digital compilation, promo production and voice over work.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time at Liskeard Radio. I’ve learned such a lot and it has really helped me to think more seriously about a career in radio and the media,” said Cody.

Cody finished his traineeship with a full day of live broadcasting using his accumulated skills. You can hear highlights and Cody’s other shows at https://www.liskeardradio.com/ and the station’s Mixcloud page.

“He has done a great job in all areas, injecting a lot of enthusiasm into every aspect of the training and we hope that he will continue to play an active role at Liskeard Radio,” said Martin.

If you think you fit the criteria and are interested in training for a career in media, ask your work coach, or contact Liskeard Radio.
