A young woman from Torpoint has been crowned Miss Cornwall.

Former 'Face of Plymouth' Charlotte Holmes won the title at the final in Newquay on June 12.

The 20-year-old model will go on to represent the county at the Miss England finals on July 19 and 20 in London.

As well as winning the crown, Charlotte was the first Miss Cornwall to also be awarded the Miss Charity Cornwall title, after raising £1,100 to go towards a total of £3,600 raised by the competitors for Tanzanian charity Tukae.

She said: 'When they announced that I'd won Miss Charity, I didn't think I would win the overall title because it's never happened before – then they called out my number! I was so shocked that I was just in a bit of a daze with lots of flashing lights going off around me.'

Event organiser Becky Chapman said: 'Charlotte's a fantastic winner, she's a real all-rounder and scored well in every category.'

Charlotte has just five weeks to fundraise all over again for the Miss England final.

'I'm so nervous and I'm going to have to pull out all the stops, but I hope that the people of Cornwall support me again.'

Katie Helyer, also from Torpoint, won the Miss Popularity Cornwall title for receiving more than 1,000 text votes, which secures her a place in the Miss England semi-finals for next year.
