I READ a letter in the Cornish Times (19.06.09) about Looe which was headlined 'Town in danger of dying'.
After travelling around various parts of the world and country, I visited Looe after not having been there for approximately 50 years.
What surprised me is that it appears to be locked in a time warp.
It was virtually the same as some 50 years ago – fish and chips, slot machine arcades, etc. I think the powers that be should visit countries they are in competition with for visitors.
Where are the 21st century facilities? Beach loungers, not 100-year-old deckchairs; children's play areas and facilities; young people's recreational areas – volley ball etc; showers and foot washing facilities; and toilets, even if you have to pay a small charge in order to keep them clean. I am now retired and living in Callington, but when my children and grandchildren visit during the holiday season, Looe will not be on the visiting list.
Looe is basically a quaint attractive town which requires updating.
