Preparations are already well under way for Liskeard’s winter carnival.

Lights Up will be on November 30, and this year, the Town Council is joining forces again with Golden Tree Productions and the Truro City of Lights to stage a spectacular parade of lanterns.

The procession is part of a whole programme of Cornish language focused activities that includes a window trail, a Santa train, and a free party in the Public Hall.

Dance workshops have already begun on Wednesday evenings at the Liskerrett Centre from 7.30-9pm. The sessions with Scoots Kernow are aimed at anyone who’d like to attend the post-fireworks celebration.

Meanwhile Golden Tree is working with schools in the area to teach some Cornish language in preparation for the Family Trail in town during the day of Lights Up.

Cornish language and singing drop-in sessions will also start from this Monday (November 4) at the Hub Cafe in the Liskerrett Centre and these will run from 7-9pm. These are a fun way to learn, and perfect for beginners, says the Town Council.

Lantern-making workshops are set to start on Saturday November 9 and will be held at the Liskerrett Centre from 10am-1pm. This year’s theme is ’Under the Clock’.

’We are planning to recreate Liskeard in lanterns this year,’ said Lights Up lead artist Mark Gregory.

‘So whether you are inspired to make a small lantern in the shape of your own house, or would

like to try something more ambitious, come along and get creative. There are so many lovely buildings in Liskeard to choose from. You can then illuminate it and join in the parade around town before the Christmas Tree lights are switched on.’

Children who attend the weekly sessions should be accompanied by an adult – and participants should be prepared to get messy!
