FOLLOWING a successful concert last month, Callington Town Band has sent a donation of £532 to Cornwall Air Ambulance. The concert was held at the Community College and was compered by Janet Eathorne, of BBC Radio Cornwall. The Callington musicians were joined by members of the Stannary Band for a varied programme of well-known music and were conducted by the Town Band's Musical Director, Paul Boase. Also taking part were the Porthpyra Singers who performed a range of popular songs. A spirited rendition of The Post Horn Gallop was performed by Bill Leith, who was later joined by Jane Copley for a cornet duet, 'High on a Hill' ,and Paul Boase put down his baton to play an oboe solo, the Largo from Dvorak's 'New World Symphony'. Towards the end of the concert Janette Eathorne was presented with a bouquet of flowers by the band's youngest members, 10-year-old Jennifer Boase and nine year-old Evie Lightbody. Anyone, of any age, who would like to join the band, either as an experienced player or a beginner, should contact Paul Boase by phoning 01579 383741.
