Final touches have been made to paper lanterns this week ahead of Liskeard’s Cornish Christmas event tomorrow (Saturday Nov 30).
Nadelik Lyskerrys will include a family trail around the town centre, a Cornish mummers play, a lantern procession and fireworks and a free party with live music in the Public Hall.
Lanterns made in community workshops at Liskerrett Community Centre will join those made by made by other groups across town in the parade. Children at Hillfort, St Martins, Braddock, Trewidland, Darite and Pensilva Schools and Liskerrett pre-school have all been involved in creating lanterns.
The procession will leave the Cattle Market at 5.30pm and parade down Pike Street, along Fore Street and back up Bay Tree Hill before stopping outside the Cornish Times office for the lighting up of the Christmas tree and the grand fireworks display, which this year has been sponsored by Steve Hosken Builders. ‘Liskeard Lights Up is always an amazing evening,’ said Liskerrett Community Centre co-ordinator Jenny Foster.
‘It’s a testament to the community spirit and goodwill that exists in our town that so many people have given their time, skills and financial support to make our Liskeard Cornish Christmas the best yet.’
