TWO men are setting out this morning to swim right around Looe Island.

And as if that weren’t enough, Jo Brown and Tom Foreman then plan to tackle five more of the rocky islands off Cornwall’s coast – all in one day.

Jo and Tom, who run the holiday company Sea Swim Cornwall, are both experienced and title-winning open water swimmers.

But they have taken on today’s 6-island challenge to raise funds for the Chestnut Appeal for Prostate Cancer.

‘We’re starting with a big one, Looe Island, then going onto the Gwinges at Gorran Haven, St Michael’s Mount, St Clements Island (Mousehole), Goose Rock (Crantock) and Gull Rock in Holywell Bay,’ they said.

‘The challenge is approx 20km, not including any currents around some of the islands that we’ll encounter.’

‘We chose the Chestnut Appeal as they raise funds for valuable equipment in the fight against Prostate Cancer and they also run a number of fantastic open water swims across Cornwall and Devon.’

Meanwhile tomorrow (Sunday), St George’s Island will be the setting for another fundraising event for the Chestnut Appeal.

The Looe Island Swim will see 120 people dive into the water to swim back to East Looe Beach.

The swim is just over a mile in length and is set to begin at 4.30pm.
