Memorial to
school pupil
STUDENTS at Torpoint School have been invited to design a stained glass window in memory of a fellow pupil who died from cancer at the age of 11 earlier this year.
Many pupils have expressed a wish to have a memorial to celebrate and remember Richard Haydon's life.
Richard had only been at the school for a short while but he was well-known because he went to both Torpoint Infant School and Carbeile Junior School in the town. His sister Clare is a pupil at the senior school.
Parents of pupils have also been invited to put forward designs for a memorial window.
Students have been raising money towards a memorial.
The youngest pupils at the school took part in a bus pull to raise fund for CLIC (Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood Trust) and a memorial.
A doughnut and hot drink morning and other fundraising efforts have also been undertaken at the school.
Plan for body piercing
and tattoo studio
PLANNING permission is being sought to change first floor offices at 1A Harvey Street in the centre of Torpoint into a tattoo and body piercing studio. Caradon District Council will make a decision on the application.
Fundraiser for
mayor's charity
A COFFEE morning in aid of the Mayor of Torpoint's official charity will be held in the town on Saturday, April 27.
Mayoress Christine Martin, wife of Mayor Stan Martin, is organising the event at the Torpoint Silver Band Hut between 10am and noon on the day.
She said: "All proceeds will be in aid of the Chestnut Appeal which aims to raise money to set up a state-of-the-art unit at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth for prostrate cancer patients.
"This will be our last coffee morning for the charity during the mayoral year. Please come along and help support this very worthwhile cause."
Ministers invited
to lead prayers
MINISTERS from the different religious denominations in Torpoint are being invited to lead prayers which are said at the beginning of the monthly town council meetings.
At present the mayor's chaplain leads the prayers but this is set to change following a discussion on future arrangements.
The mayor will still appoint a chaplain for official functions but ministers from the various local churches are being invited to lead prayers at council meetings on a rota basis.
Ideas put forward over
expanding skateboard park
A GROUP of keen skateboarders has put forward ideas for increasing the amount of equipment at Torpoint's skateboard park.
Representatives from the town council met with between 15 and 20 skateboard enthusiasts to discuss the proposals.
The meeting agreed that the skateboarders would obtain prices for the new equipment and then a further meeting would be held.
It is likely the project will be spearheaded by Torpoint Youth Action which is to look into gaining funding for the scheme. The skateboard park in Thanckes Park is maintained by the town council.
