Printer backing

peaks challenge

A TORPOINT printer has given substantial backing to a campaign to raise money for cancer charities.

Bob Trick of Print Options has printed, without charging, promotional material for the Forces Against Cancer 10 Peak Challenge.

Eight police officers are aiming to climb 10 mountains in the United Kingdom and Ireland to raise money for CLIC (Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood Trust) and Cancer Research UK.

Among the officers from the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary and the Ministry of Defence Police are Chris Pearn and Steve Barker from Torpoint.

Chris said: "Bob Trick along with Ad-Apt Graphics and Howard Smith Paper put the promotional package together free of charge. In total it is worth over £2,000."

Meanwhile, Chris's father, Mike Pearn, a Torpoint town councillor, is helping to organise a charity golf tournament in aid of the challenge.

Mike said: "Mickey Shone and myself are organising the tournament at the Whitsand Bay Golf Club on Thursday, May 2, teeing off from 12.30pm. There will be 18 teams of four taking part."

Mike, who can be contacted on 01752 813164, is hoping to hear from teams who wish to enter or from individuals or organisations willing to sponsor a hole.

The expedition to climb the 10 peaks will take place from May 12. More details are available from Chris Pearn, e-mail [email protected]">[email protected]

Teacher in long walk

A TEACHER from Torpoint School will be spending part of her Easter holidays walking over 100 miles.

Helen Roberts is aiming to walk a 108-mile route from Reading to Bristol to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

The teacher had hoped to do the walk last summer but it had to be postponed at the last minute.

She said: "If previous offers of sponsorship still hold I will have raised about £600 so far but any further donations towards the British Heart Foundation would be gratefully received."

A proportion of the money raised by a Year 10 mufti day at the school has been put towards the charity.
