New cemetery

to open soon

A NEW cemetery on the outskirts of Torpoint is likely to open in the near future.

Caradon District Council plans to site the cemetery on the south side of the A374 Antony Road, near the entrance to the National Trust's Antony House, though not directly opposite.

At present the triangular site, covering around 12,200 square metres, is used as farmland.

It is proposed that a copse at the site will be converted into a remembrance garden.

The town council, which has backed the plan for the cemetery, has heard from Caradon that it is anticipated that the new cemetery will be available in the near future.

Crime problems ease

at business park

TORPOINT police are reporting an easing of problems at the Trevol Business Park.

Last year the police highlighted the business park as being one of the crime hotspots in the town. The area has been affected by vandalism and other incidents. The police have focused their attention in the area and have reported an improvement as they have taken action.

Figures from the police show that the number of reported crimes in the town continues to be down on last year. Among the crimes committed have been four assaults, four burglaries, seven thefts, two arsons, 21 involving motor vehicles, three cycle thefts, seven incidents of criminal damage, one public order offence and one of being drunk and disorderly.

Ornamental

archway plan

AN application to construct an ornamental archway on Tom Boy Hill in the parkland around the National Trust's Antony House has been submitted to Caradon District Council.

Sir Richard Carew Pole is seeking listed building consent to build the archway.
