Council wants future of youth

club building sorted out

THE former Torpoint Youth Club building on the Trevol Business Park has been the target of vandalism in recent months.

Since the club closed several months ago, the town council, which leases the building, has been dealing with various problems at the site.

Windows and doors have been boarded up, a request has been made for street lighting to be improved, and the council agreed to pay for hundreds of old tyres to be removed from the site. The council also agreed to have an abandoned car removed and to look into having boulders placed there to stop further vehicles being dumped.

Council members agree that it is essential that the future of the empty building which is owned by Antony Estates is sorted out. The youth club was run by the Cornwall county youth service which decided not to spend any further money on the building after the club closed.

Story time

PARENTS with children aged under five are being encouraged to take their youngsters along to a weekly story time session at Torpoint Library.

Staff at the library are hoping more under-fives will attend the free sessions with their parents following the departure of a number of children who have started school. The sessions are held on a Thursday afternoon from 2.30pm. Stories are read by Christine Martin, the current town mayoress, and are followed by activities.

Complex job

A BUSINESS support adviser is being sought by Torpoint Town Council to work at the new Marine Drive complex. The adviser, who will work 20 hours per week, will operate the financial and administrative systems at the new light industrial units and conference centre.

Watercolours

prove popular

PICTURES by Torpoint artist Iris Williams are proving popular at the town's library.

Iris, who paints with watercolours, is the artist of the month at the library, and several of her pictures of local scenes have already been sold through the display.

Young dancer

in ballet

EMMA Channing, a year 8 pupil at Torpoint School, will be appearing in Copelia with the English Youth Ballet in March.

Emma, who is a student at Vivien Smith's Hi-Kix Dance Centre, will be travelling to the Princess Theatre in Torquay to take part in the production next month.
