at Antony House
CLOSING the Garden Gate is the title of a walk and talk taking place at Antony House near Torpoint as part of the National Trust Gardens Year.
The event will be held on Thursday, November 1, at 2pm and the property's gardening team will be discussing the winter tasks ahead.

Big book sale
to boost nurses
HUNDREDS of secondhand books will be for sale in Torpoint next weekend.
The Torpoint and Rame Community Nurses Friends are holding a book sale at Torpoint Silver Band Hut on Saturday, November 3, between 10am and 4pm.
Potential buyers are invited to visit the sale and browse through the books. Admission is free and refreshments will be available.
Carnival trip
A TRIP to North Petherton in Somerset to see the Bridgwater Carnival is being organised in aid of the Chernobyl Children's Lifeline.
The coach will leave from Torpoint School at 2pm on Saturday, November 10, with tickets costing £9 for adults and £5 for children. Telephone 01752 813916 for details.
Gym for tots
THE Tamar Gymnastics Club is holding a mums, dads and babes session at the Torpoint Council Chambers in York Road on Wednesday mornings.
The sessions, from 10am to noon, are for children aged between six months and three years old, and feature a soft play area, a ball pool and gymnastics mats.

Weather map
inspires art
AN abstract painting full of bright colours which was inspired by a weather forecast map on the television has been on display at Torpoint Library.
The work was created by the library's artist of the month, Mrs D Campbell, who has also been showing pictures of local scenes she has painted.
Today (Friday, October 26) the library is holding a half-term activity for children featuring birds from the Screech Owl Sanctuary.
Forces against
cancer
A TABLE top sale organised for the Forces Against Cancer Appeal Fund will be held in the Council Chambers in York Road, Torpoint, on Saturday (October 27).
The event, which will raise money for CLIC (Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood Trust) and the Imperial Cancer Research Fund, will run from 10am until 3pm.
There will be stalls, a raffle and refreshments including all-day breakfasts.
Sunshine group
for toddlers
CHILDREN aged three and under are being invited to the Sunshine Toddler Group in Torpoint with their mums, dads, grandparents or childminders.
The group, which meets every Thursday from 10am to 11.30am in Cornerstone Church hall in Fore Street, offers play and fun for the children and a chance for a chat for the adults.

a bargain
TORPOINT WI is holding a rummage sale tomorrow (Saturday) at the Silver Band Hut between 10am and noon.
