Chance to join

carnival fun

PEOPLE and organisations in Torpoint are being urged to join in the carnival fun next weekend.

The Torpoint and Rame Peninsula Lions Club is again organising the carnival day which will take place on Saturday, August 25.

"We are seeking more support from clubs and pubs etc for floats and from children and adults for the various fancy dress classes," said Lions club public relations officer John Kentisbeer.

"We are looking for a good-sized procession to march proudly behind the Band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines.

"If you would like to dress up and join in, entry forms are available from Lion Dave Rosson's barber shop in Elliot Square or from Lion Brian Pope on 01752 813656. If you would like a stall site in Fore Street for your organisation, please contact Lion Mike Allen on 01752 813109.

"On the day, Fore Street will be closed to traffic from 1pm to 6pm. Activities there will start at 1.30pm.

"The carnival procession will assemble on the drive of Torpoint School at 2.30pm with judging at 3pm.

"Led by the Royal Marine Band, the procession will move off at 3.30pm. Turning left from the school drive, the procession will enter Antony Road and march down to Harvey Street, then turning into Tamar Street and terminating in the car park where the band will give a demonstration of music on the march.

"Fun and games will continue in Fore Street until the street reopens to traffic.

"There are loads of attractions lined up, so why don't you dress up and come along and join in the fun?"

The Lions club's Antony House Fair, which was held at the National Trust property on the outskirts of Torpoint last month, has raised around £2,800 for the club's charity chest.

The event featured live music and dance, a sheepdog display and a fire brigade demonstration.
