Archives receive
a boost
THE Torpoint Archives have been boosted by a grant of £2,600 from the National Lottery.
The majority of the cash from the Awards For All fund has been used to help buy a computer and accessories and a new photocopier for the archives at the Council Chambers in York Road. Around £750 has also been put towards storage of old photographs.
The archives are a treasure house of historical material from Torpoint and the surrounding area.
"They have thousands of photographs," said town councillor Mike Pearn.
"Husband and wife team Pat and Freda Manning run the archives. They are very dedicated and do a fantastic job.
"The archives are free for people to visit and Pat and Freda will try to trace anything on family and local history."
The archives are open from 2-4pm and 7-9pm on Tuesdays and 10am to noon and 2pm to 4pm on Fridays.
Infants school seek donations
THE nursery unit at Torpoint Infants School is looking to build up its stock of Duplo bricks and toys and would welcome donations from families who no longer play with them. Meanwhile, the assessment unit at the school is appealing for any unwanted Playmobil items. The unit uses the Playmobil people and equipment to assess children as well as to help them play.
Sign request is
turned down
A CALL for a signpost to the public toilets at Defiance Field in Torpoint has been turned down. Caradon District Council told the town council that signposting the toilets from the nearby road was viewed as a safety hazard. However, the district council did say better signs at the toilet block will be considered.
