Musician 'saves the
day' for pantomime
MUSICIAN Viv Hendra has stepped in "to save the day" for the annual pantomime in Torpoint.
The well-known teacher from Torpoint School has volunteered to play the music for the pantomime which is being staged by the Torpoint Players in January.
Mike Briggs, who is producing and directing the show, said: "Our usual musical director was unavailable for this production. We had been searching for someone to play the music and at a late stage Viv has come in to save the day for the show."
The Players are performing Mother Goose by Robert Morley, nightly from Tuesday, January 9, to Saturday, January 13, at 7.30pm in the Council Chambers in York Road. There will also be a matinee on the Saturday at 2.30pm.
The Players have been rehearsing since the beginning of October for the pantomime which features around 10 main acting roles as well as a large chorus and dancers.
Joe May is playing Mother Goose, the Demon is Russell Baker and the Goose is Abigail Higgins.
Thanks to an article in the Cornish Times, the group was able to obtain a ready-made Mother Goose costume for Joe to wear.
The rest of the costumes have been the responsibility of Rosemary Slee who has been helped by members of the cast.
The choreographer for the pantomime is Viv Smith, while the scenery has been made by Rod McCarthy and Tony Edwards.
Tickets, costing £4 for adults and £2 for children, are selling well for the show. They can be obtained from the Racquets club and from Moss Pharmacy in Fore Street.

Millennium coins
still for sale

The rest were available for the public to purchase at a cost of £2.50 each. A total of 445 have been sold and it is hoped the end of the first year of the new Millennium will spark renewed interest in the coins.
Councillor Mike Pearn said: "At the end of the special year, people may well be interested in buying a memento.
"The coins can be obtained by ringing me on 01752 813164 or by contacting Bob Jenkins at the council chambers in York Road on 01752 814885 between 10am and noon on weekdays."
