Fire station plans
are considered
CARADON councillors have been consulted by the county council regarding a plan to build a fire station, new bus bay and car parking area at Torpoint community school.
Torpoint town council had recommended refusal of the proposal, for the site at Trevol Road, on the grounds of reduced visibility and removal of trees - and recommended a site at Trevol business park.
The proposed fire station would occupy an existing bus turning and car parking bay adjacent to a recreation area. The bus burning bay would be relocated around 270 metres further up Antony Road, to occupy an area of green space in front of school buildings. Outline approval for the scheme was given in October 2000, and Caradon officers recommended to councillors, meeting last night (Thursday), that no objections are made on a district level to the proposal.

The mayor and his wife Christine, the mayoress, organised the event in the Torpoint Band Hut in the Somerfield car park to raise funds for the Friends of Derriford Hospital Kidney Unit.
"We raised a total of £131," said Christine. "The event was a success. I would like to thank all the helpers who were busy serving tea and coffee and running the stalls. I would also like to thank all the people who came along."
