Crime figures
FIGURES from the police show that more than 500 crimes have been reported in Torpoint so far this year. Among the recent crimes are six burglaries, one assault, five thefts, one drink-driving offence, three cases of criminal damage and 11incidents involving motor vehicles.
Santa in town
SANTA will be visiting Torpoint in the run-up to Christmas - to help raise funds for the Mayor's charity.
The festive fellow, who some may think bears a striking resemblance to the mayor himself, will be available to meet local children at the Torpoint Band Hut in the Somerfield car park on Saturday, December 2.
The Mayor and Mayoress, Stan and Christine Martin, are arranging the event which will run from 10am to 4pm.
"Children can come along and meet Santa for the mayor's charity," said Christine.
"There will also be a postbox for children to post letters to Santa. A cake stall, and coffee, tea and biscuits will be available all day.
"Santa will be donating the profits to the Friends of Derriford Hospital Kidney Unit."
Mayor's charity
A TOTAL of £160 has been raised for the Mayor of Torpoint's charity, the Friends of Derriford Hospital Kidney Unit, through a tabletop sale held in the Council Chambers.
Mayor Stan Martin's wife, Christine, said: "There was a very good response. I would like to thank Councillor Mike Pearn and his wife Val for organising the event. They really worked hard to make it such a success.
"Cream teas and other refreshments were available and Mary Parker and Liz Harris, the wife of the town clerk, were busy helping in the kitchen."
