Three staff leave infants school
THREE teachers are leaving Torpoint Infants School - two to take up promotions and one to have a baby.
Andrew Hunt, 26, is leaving after five years at the school to take up a position as lower school co-ordinator at Camelford Primary School.
He said: "This was my first post and Ive had a wonderful time. Its been brilliant experience."
Nursery teacher Marie Cole, 29, is leaving after two years at the school. Marie, who is moving to Whitleigh Primary School in Plymouth, said: "Ive really enjoyed my time here.'It is a lovely school and I have been really privileged to work here."
Reception teacher Rachel Barry is leaving the school because she is due to have a baby.
Lip reading
A SERIES of lip reading classes are to be held in Torpoint in the coming months.
Social Services, working in partnership with the Workers Educational Association, will be offering tuition as part of its service for hard of hearing people.
The aim of the course is to give students practical help in coping with their deafness. As well as tuition in lip reading, there will be training in active listening and clear speech.
Tutor Jan Frost will run the classes over three terms of eight weeks at Torpoint Health Centre in Hooper Street.
The classes will be held from 10 am to noon on Wednesdays, with the first term starting on September 20.
Woodland plan
TOWN councillors in Torpoint have called for native deciduous trees to be planted around the town rather than conifers when any new plantings take place. They were responding to a draft woodland management plan from Caradon Council for various locations in the town.
Unusual concert
A CONCERT with a difference is due to take place on the Rame Peninsula tomorrow (Saturday, August 26).
The Friends of Mount Edgcumbe Country Park are presenting a hi-fi concert of light classical music in the grounds of the park.
"Trill to the sound of 1,000-watts of amplification which will make you believe that the orchestra is right there" says publicity material for the Music In The Park event.
Works by Verdi, Tchaikovsky, Saint Saens and Bernstein will be featured in the concert which will run from 7pm to 10pm.
Concert-goers are being invited to take a picnic along to the park.

Activity at library
A CHILDRENS activity day with the theme of "The Olympics" is due to be held at Torpoint Library today (Friday, August 25).
The event will be out of the starting blocks at 10am and is due to "cross the finishing line" at noon. Stories, crafts and entertainment will be features of the morning which costs £1.
Firing range
PLANS to demolish an existing six-lane firing range and replace it with a new range at HMS Raleigh in Torpoint have met with no objections from the town council.
