Special service
Members of churches in Torpoint and on the Rame Peninsula will be joining together for a special service on Sunday.
The Churches Together in Torpoint group has arranged the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity service which will be held at St Andrew's Church in Cawsand at 6pm.
Clergy from various denominations will be involved in the service which is held each year at a different church in the area.
Meanwhile the churches together group is planning a procession of witness for later in the year. The procession is due to take place in Torpoint on April 16, Palm Sunday, and will be followed by a united service at St James Church in the town centre.
Millennium Tape
Mr Michael Howells ISM (Imperial Service Medal) is a water colour artist and during his process of writing a book made an audio tape called 'Torpoint Millennium Celebrations and Reflective Moods' from the last night of the 20th Century and into the 21st Century. The tape captures moments and the atmosphere of the night.
The tape was intended as part of Mr Howells book but has now been made into a 'real' product currently on sale at Torpoint Library. Mr Howells would like to set a challenge of 'Could this make it into the Guinness Book of Records?'.
Anyone who would like more information on the tape and has done a similar challenge please contact Mr Howells on 01752 816615 or Torpoint Library on 01752 812207.
Lion Club
A total of £5,245 has been donated to around 26 causes by the Torpoint and Rame Peninsula Lions Club since July.
The Lions, under president John Blythe, have raised money during that time through various events and activities including their Santa Sleigh Ride which travelled around the district on 15 nights before Christmas.
The sleigh ride, which was organised by the Lions' new fundraising chairman, Norman Nethercott, collected a total of £2,500.
Among the donations given by the Lions in the past few months are: £1,000 to Hearing Dogs for the Deaf, £500 to the Albania Aid appeal and £375 to Torpoint Youth Football for new kit.
Norman, who lives in Torpoint, is now turning his attention to future Lions fundraising activities. The club will be represented at the Cambridge Field fete in the spring, at the Antony House fair in July and at the Torpoint Carnival in September. The Lions will also be talking part in a Father's Day sponsored walk in June.
