Projects affecting town's future
A NUMBER of Torpoint organisations involved in projects and proposals affecting the future of the town will be meeting together next week.
The meeting has been called following concerns that various groups may be bidding for grants for schemes containing similar proposals.
Margaret Hall and Kathy Gilbert, the chairman and vice-chairman of CHAT (Community Health Around Torpoint), raised the issue with town councillors when discussing plans for the CHATlink project in the town.
The CHAT representatives and the councillors felt funding bodies may not look favourably on different applications containing similar plans from the same town.
The Mayor of Torpoint, Stan Martin, is convening an informal meeting on Wednesday, October 18, in the Mayor's Parlour to give all the organisations a chance to discuss their projects.
"The aim will be to make sure that the organisations are not chasing the same money or overlapping their projects," said Mr Martin.
"The groups have got to be pulling on the same rope."

Ballast Pound
planning appeal
A REFUSAL by Caradon council of a planning application regarding a site at The Ballast Pound, Marine Drive, Torpoint, has led to an appeal.
The appeal, by South West Marinas Ltd, is to be dealt with by the written representation method.
The application was for the removal of a condition of a planning decision, seeking permanent change of the use of the foreshore at the Pound for the siting of a vessel. The reason for the council's decision was that the 'permanent change of use of the foreshore for the siting of a vessel (the Black Barge) would be damaging to the appearance of a scheduled ancient monument.
The appellants say that the appearance of the vessel in its current position is of minimal consequence.
