The new Torpoint Pool league season got underway this week, with this year's league being sponsored by Gold Star Soft Drinks. The league is now back to being the biggest in Torpoint, with four new venues joining- Carbeile Inn, Kings Arms, Millbrook FC and Mosquito's SC.

Last year's league winners the Wilcove Warriors got off to a winning start, defeating Wheelers B by a margin of 7-2 with wins in the singles from K Tullett, R Pender, R Trick and R Bunston. Warriors also took all three of the doubles games for victory. Red Pender of the Warriors had the first eight-ball clear-up of the season.

Last season's runners-up the 200 Club A came away with a hard-fought win over the Carbeile B 5-4. C Allsop, D White and T Endean were all singles winners for the 200 A with K Scott, S Carroll and A Hall replying for the Carbeile B. 200 A took two of the three doubles for victory.

Two new sides, the Kings A and Millbrook FC, were playing at the Kings and it was the home side who came out victorious by a 7-2 margin, with wins in the singles from I Canty, C Andrews, C mayor, J Jewill and M Bright. The only singles winner for the football club was M White. Kings A then took two of the doubles matches for a good win.

Carbeile C were at the 200 Club B and lead 4-2 after the singles with wins from T Borthwick, R Stone, B Keegan and T Carey. Carbeile C also took one of the doubles to win on the night by 5-4.

Mark of Friendship overcame the King Pins by 6-3 in the final match of the week. A Triggs, W Catimer and J West were all winners for the Mark with A Miller, W Cooper and M Webb replying. Mark took all three doubles to win 6-3.

The match between Mosquito SC and Wilcove Hotshots will be played at a later date (still be arranged).

Team Captains should note that the Wheelers C have now been taken over by the Mosquito Sailing club and revised fixtures will be handed out to the pubs/clubs in the next few days. Any teams with old fixtures who are due to play the Wheelers C please note that they will now be facing the Mosquito Sailing club.
