RESIDENTS of Torpoint are invited to a day of festive entertainment on Saturday, December 2, as the town gets set for the big ‘Christmas Lights Switch-on’.

St James’ Church will be the first place to go to enjoy a Christmas Tree Festival and Cornish Christmas Market from 10.30am.

Santa will be in his grotto – and children can write a letter on the activity table before they pay him a visit.

Entertainment in Fore Street will begin at 4pm, with dance performances from the Coppola School of Performing Arts and singing by local schoolchildren.

At 6pm, it will be time for the grand lights switch-on, and this year’s honours will go to Torpoint Citizen of the Year Chris Still.

Santa will be arriving a bit differently this year, as he has opted to travel by rickshaw for his journey into Torpoint.

Thanks to the Lions Club, who are putting on their Santa Run around the Rame Peninsula, Santa will be greeting children in Fore Street after the Lights-up ceremony.
