MEMBERS of the Torpoint Branch of the Royal British Legion have joined the Royal Navy trainees at HMS Raleigh for a Blessing of their Standard during the Sunday church service. Around 20 members of the Royal British Legion, led by their chairman, Brian Williams, attended the service, accompanied by cadets from the Torpoint's Army Cadet Force. Royal Navy Chaplain, the Rev Michael Harman, carried out the Blessing of the Standard. During the service, the Rev Harman spoke about the loyalty to comrades among those in the Armed Forces which is a frequent part of the conflict. He said: 'This loyalty lives on after members have left the service in the work of the Royal British Legion in their care for the well-being of their fellow Servicemen and women. It was a great honour to have the Royal british Legion at our Sunday Service as an inspiration to the newest members of the Royal Navy.' At the end of the Service, Royal British Legion member and D-Day veteran, Ernie Burdett, was presented with a video commemorating last year's 60th anniversary of the Normandy landings.
