A TORPOINT couple have celebrated a remarkable 70 years of marriage with a special visit from the town’s mayor.

Cllr Julie Martin and her consort Andy visited Brian and Joan Jones on Tuesday, August 4, to mark their platinum wedding anniversary.

The couple were married on the same date 70 years ago at St James Church, before holding their wedding reception at the Masonic Hall.

They have spent their entire married life living in Torpoint, where they raised their three children, Kevin, Gareth and Gaynor.

Brian and Joan received many congratulations on reaching the milestone, including a card from King Charles and Queen Camilla.

The mayor said she was delighted to be part of such a special occasion, having also joined the couple 20 years ago for their golden anniversary.
