A TEACHER from saltash.net community school has been named a winner in the National Teaching Awards. Scott Wieprecht makes learning fun, say his students – and provides them with many exciting opportunities to use new technology in his subjects of maths and integrated learning. Mr Wieprecht was nominated for the South West regional award for Outstanding Use of Technology in Education by students through the school council, a nomination which was endorsed by deputy headteacher Dan Buckley. And when judges came to see him teach, they were in agreement, with their comment reading: 'Scott is an exceptional teacher who is driven by the desire to provide young people with opportunities that build their self-confidence and self-belief. 'He regularly arranges trips and runs projects which have resulted in exciting opportunities such as students presenting on the local radio and making presentations to industry.' Attending a special assembly on Thank a Teacher Day to present Mr Wieprecht with his award was Saltash mayor Jean Dent, along with vice chair of the school governors Brian Chalkley. Also receiving certificates of excellence in the teaching awards were Head of Year 8 and PE teacher Mark Feldwick, and teaching assistant Colin Stanbury. The school's maths department received a certificate of excellence for Team of the Year. Headteacher Isobel Bryce said: 'I could not be more pleased for Mr Wieprecht as a regional winner.' Mr Wieprecht will now go forward to the national finals in October 2014.
