I cannot believe that anyone who knows Looe and its traffic congestion problems in the summer, is seriously considering putting a supermarket near the centre of town which would concentrate extra traffic crossing the bridge from East to West Looe and vice versa.
At times in the past few weeks it has taken me the best part of an hour to drive from St Martin's Church to West Looe - traffic being bumper to bumper as far back as the church. The main hold up being vehicles, which have crossed the bridge and want to turn into the Millpool car park area, having to wait for a break in the traffic coming down Polperro Road. Any supermarket traffic also wanting to use the junction would only add more congestion and frustration to an already unsatisfactory situation.
Surely the positioning of the much needed supermarket should be well away from an already overloaded area. If the site was at the Barbican, for instance, or any other site on the outskirts of town, the traffic would have dispersed somewhat before it had to cross the bridge or pass the Millpool car park entrance. As most people go to the supermarket in the car the extra distance would not make any difference. A courtesy bus would solve the problem of would be shoppers without their own transport.
