This evening will see a repeat of a BBC programme first screened last year but which focuses on the life of fishing families in Looe.

Cornwall: This Fishing Life, due to be screened on BBC2 at 7pm tonight, is a documentary following the Toms family of Looe as they try to resurrect the last boat built in the South East Cornwall port and invest in the town’s fishing fleet, with three generations throwing themselves into the fray.

The Toms’ journey to get the boat back out and fishing takes them through the challenges of the British quota system, "in which just five families own nearly a third of the country’s entire fish quota", says the BBC.

In the next edition of the Cornish Times we will be taking a look at whether anything has changed since the making of the programme and speaking to fishermen and others in Looe to see how they see the future of the port.
