NOMADIC village club players from Morval, near Looe, were left scurrying for the record books after Aiden Libby's flawless innings against near-neighbours Liskeard in a recent Sunday friendly. Libby's 106 proved not only to be the batsman's first century but also the first marked down against a player from 'the other MCC' in its 28-year history. It surpassed the previous highest score, notched by Phil Hewlett in a friendly against Duloe in August 1984. On that occasion, the Saltash and Trenode (Widegates) school headmaster and former Liskeard and Saltash county football goalkeeper compiled a painstaking 92, with just nine fours and one six, before hitting his own wicket while attempting to dispatch an Alan Barber ball to the boundary during Morval's 66-run victory in a 35-over game. Sadly, though, Libby's own milestone couldn't prevent another Morval defeat this season. Their total of 149 for five was passed by Liskeard with the loss of only three wickets following good knocks from Matt Hyslop (64no), Justin Kidd (26) and Andrew Gaukroger (25no).
