When they met last night (December 16), members of Caradon's Planning Control Committee (West) were once again looking at the future of the historic Old Toll House (The Nest) on Liskeard's 'Bubble' site. The owners of the property, M. and Mrs Michael Griffiths, of Fort Lauderdale in the United States, were written to informing them that if reasonable steps are not taken to preserve it, the council might soon commence compulsory purchase proceedings. In their reply Mr and Mrs Griffith said they did not have the resources to undertake the work themselves, and asked what assistance could be given by way of grants, professional advice, etc. Last night councillors were being recommended: • To accept that a schedule for repairs be completed and forwarded to the owners • That a strategy for the repair and disposal of the property be prepared • That negotiations start with English Heritage, and that a grant application for financial assistance is submitted.
