Saltash United 1

St Austell 2

Even allowing for the absence of several first-team players, Saltash should have had enough in their

armoury to have beaten

Division One West side St Austell in this friendly at Kimberley Stadium.

'We had a lot of key players missing, hence we did not get

any fluency in our play, but it was still a very poor performance,' said Ashes boss Kevin Hendy.

'We could not really take anything positive from the game, and all credit must go to St Austell who came here with a positive attitude and thoroughly deserved their victory against us.

'The biggest bonus to come out of the game is that we did not suffer any further injuries, as we had nine players out tonight.

'After our two opening friendlies, in which we were excellent, we have not let ourselves down in the next two,' he added.

The Lillywhites took a first-half lead when Will Tinsley raced clear to round the Ashes goalkeeper, and it was the same player who struck again after the break with another fine individual effort.

Ashes did pull a goal back eight minutes from time, when a Paul Madden corner found Danny Lewis coming in at the near post to head home, but they were unable to break through again to gain a draw.
