VOLUNTEERS at a visitor attraction in South East Cornwall are celebrating after achieving Accredited Museum status.
The Elliott’s Store in Fore Street, Saltash, is a living ‘time capsule’, depicting a grocery store exactly as it was in the era before decimalisation.
The shop was bequeathed by the Elliott family to the Tamar Protection Society, whose volunteers run the store and the adjacent three rooms as a museum.
Open to the public between April and September, Elliott’s Store also offers schools and groups the chance to visit all year round.
Elliott’s Store was open as a shop until the early 1970s. After the death of Francis Elliott in 1995, the building was given to the Tamar Protection Society to be managed as a museum.
Exhibitions in the three rooms adjoining the store itself depict the life and times of the Elliott family through the 20th Century.
Anyone interested in organising a visit to Elliott’s Store and Museum should ring 01752 842132.
