A PLAN for 25 affordable homes in Callington has been recommended for refusal by the town council. The plan by Westcountry Housing would see the properties built on South Hill Road. The council's planning committee came up with nine reasons why the plan should not go ahead. These included the development lying outside of the development boundary and that there is no safe pedestrian route into the town centre from the properties. The council also said the application did not meet the need of Callington residents. Councillors make the point that when the Village Collection was built on Southern Road, few local people could be found to live in them. The plan will now go forward to Caradon District Council's planning control committee east for a final decision. Meanwhile, homes on one of the area's newest estates have already been snapped up. Some properties on the 86-house Calcos Place development in Kelly Bray have been reserved just as the sales office has been launched. 'The phones have been red hot,' said sales negotiator Chris Morrish. 'High quality, affordable housing is at an absolute premium in this part of Cornwall, especially in such a beautiful location at the edge of Bodmin Moor. 'We have already reserved a number of properties off plan.' The development, created by Barratt Homes, is based on the site of the old KB Products premises on Station Road . The development will consist of a selection of property types including two-bedroom apartments and three- and four-bedroom homes. 'Calcos Place provides much needed high quality homes for both local people and those looking for a suitable place to relocate to,' Mr Morrish added. 'We are taking inquiries from all over the country.'
