Callington could lose its heritage centre if no new volunteers can be found, the town council has warned.
Callington Heritage Centre, which is in a former chapel on Liskeard Road, was first opened in 1994 and was relaunched after a modernisation in 2006.
Since then the centre has run varied annual exhibitions as well as being a valuable resource for both professional and amateur historians.
It has also hosted visits from local schools and groups and has a searchable online database of records of value to family historians.
The centre is a major repository for historical documents and artefacts relating to Callington and its surrounding villages, and provides a vital connection to the town’s mining and farming past, says Councillor David Williams.
‘The Heritage Centre has offered an amazing link into our collective past,’ he said. ‘The town has a long history in mining as well as agriculture and the collections at the centre provide a wonderful resource for people looking at how the town was created.’
With two of its key volunteers set to retire, the Heritage Centre now needs new people to step forward.
Anyone interested in helping at the Heritage Centre should contact Callington Town Council, either by email to [email protected] or by calling before 1.30pm Monday to Friday.
