DIVISION ONE
Mevagissey 0
St Cleer 2
St Cleer continue to impress in Division One of the Bodmin Trophies Duchy League after winning their 12th match out of 13 at Mevagissey.
Despite the pitch being passed
fit to play on, the surface was
very poor – but St Cleer took the game to their hosts.
The game was dominated by the Saints, who had around 12 shots on target in the first half alone.
However, it was not until the early minutes of the second period that they took the lead, when Ryan Thorogood lashed a powerful effort which gave the Mevagissey goalkeeper no chance.
Thorogood and his strike partner, Ed Bradshaw, were causing all kinds of problems for the Mevagissey defence.
The next opportunity fell to Nick Trevarthan, who broke through the midfield and shot from 30 yards, but his shot did not trouble the 'keeper. On 63 minutes, Dave Wade replaced Bradshaw and made an immediate impact.
He received the ball and jinked past a few defenders before slotting in a precise shot from close range.
Mevagissey's cause wasn't helped when they had a man sent off for retaliation 15 minutes from time.
Although the home side pressed late on and hit the bar, the Saints closed the game out and secured another vital three points towards their promotion bid.
'This was a very pleasing performance considering the pitch and cold conditions,' admitted St Cleer manager Russell Hale.
'It was nice to be able to field the same side as the previous week, but we must keep our feet on the ground and keep putting in the performances.'
The match was sponsored by Keith Holwill.
