Neighbours chatting in the street ran for cover when they saw a huge swarm of around 30,000 bees approaching. The bees arrived in Samuel Bone Close, Liskeard, on Wednesday afternoon and sent residents scurrying into their houses. One householder had to run across several gardens to get home as the swarm of honey bees descended. Resident Richard Hooper said he was just going shopping when he stopped to chat to a few people. He said: ‘We all heard this loud noise getting closer and, when we looked up into the sky, there was this big black cloud hovering not far above us. The only sensible thing to do was run. There were thousands of bees and the noise was terrific.’ The residents rang Cornwall Council which advised them to contact the Liskeard Beekeepers Association. This resulted in ‘bee buster’ Chris Boughton arriving on the scene and safely taking the bees from a garden to a beekeeper. He said: ‘This is the time of year when I am called out to deal with a number of swarms. This was a sizeable one but there is no need to panic.’
