AFTER the recent theft of gardening tools from their allotment, staff and pupils at Duloe Primary School were visited by PCSO Steve Cocks from Looe police.

He was impressed to see that all of the replacement tools have been permanently marked and are locked away securely in the school when not in use.

'The summer months are the peak time for garden thefts,' said PCSO Cocks. 'Gardens, garages and sheds contain a number of high-value items such as lawnmowers, tools, cycle and garden furniture which appeal to thieves. 'They may also contain items like tools and ladders which a burglar can use to break into a house.'

He warned householders not to leave garages or garden sheds unlocked. 'Fit strong deadlocks or padlocks,' he said. 'Mark all tools and equipment with permanent marker pens with your postcode, house number or house name, make a list of serial numbers of your more valuable items and register details on the immobilise website.'
