Last Friday Marie Curie volunteers from all over the county gathered at Truro Town Hall to celebrate National Volunteer’s Week.
Volunteers enjoyed a delicious cream tea after hearing from community fundraiser, Lynda Thomas and volunteer development manager for the South West, Premal Bhatt.
Lynda thanked volunteers for their continued support and reported that the 2016 Great Daffodil Appeal had been another great success with £38,000 being raised through collections in supermarkets and on the streets in Cornwall with more than 1,000 little boxes of daffodils placed in shops and local businesses contributing a total of £17,000.
A grand total of £55,000 will fund 2,750 hours of local Marie Curie nursing care for terminally ill patients who wished to be cared for in the comfort of their own home.
A special award was presented to Ian Cameron, from Bodmin, who has volunteered for 25 years and recently attended a special reception at Clarence House along with Dr Barry and Sue Pettit from Truro.
