TWO women whose ‘determination and goodwill’ kept Looe’s town centre post office open have been thanked by the town’s mayor.

Bouquets were presented to Heather Margetts and Kate Ennor by Councillor Armand Toms, who said: ‘Members of the public will remember the time earlier this year when the Post Office tried to close our local branch on Fore Street.

‘With some negotiation and goodwill this did not happen. The main part of this was the determination of Heather and Kate not to let the community down.

‘They worked under a lot of pressure to do the best for us – I recognise this with a small gift and heartfelt thanks.’

Heather, who has joined Kate in working part time at the new post office in Quayside Fresh, said she had wanted to keep the facility open for the sake of the town’s elderly and others who might have found it difficult to access an alternative branch
