A solid, workmanlike display from start to finish in the all Cornish, Tetley Bitter Vase fourth round clash at Moorlands Lane, carried Saltash deservedly through for a place in the fifth round.

Neil Westerman for Saltash and Peter Dingle for Wadebridge exchanged early penalties. Before the Ashes demonstrated their up front superiority with a pushover try from Peter Congo on the end of a five metre scrum for Westerman to convert.

Saltash had a try disallowed after Rob Bewes was adjudged to have knocked the ball on, and play immediately swung to the other end where Dingle landed a second penalty, and further cut the visitor's deficit with a third from close in after backchat twice cost Saltash ten metres.

But Saltash kept a stranglehold on proceedings after the break with an early penalty from Westerman. A second pushover try going to Congo at the end of the third quarter and Westerman adding the extras in an almost perfect reflection of the first half.

With Saltash clearly in control the final outcome was never in doubt. And it was well into injury time before prop Mark Richards crossed outside the woodwork and Andrew Hicks drop kicked the conversion to somewhat flatter the scoreline In the visitors favour.
