A Cornwall Housing tenant has been evicted from a property in Saltash on grounds of Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB).

A Cornwall Council statement said: ’The conduct of the tenant and their associates resulting in the eviction included fighting in the street with baseball bats, numerous acts of harassment and intimidation towards the community, drug use, drug dealing, and excessive shouting, arguing and swearing.

’Cornwall Housing attempted to support the tenant to maintain her tenancy. After positive drugs raids at the property during October 2015 and February 2016, formal action was required to be taken to address the ASB.’

Pete Jarman, Cornwall Housing’s Director of Landlord Services said: ’Repossessing a property is always the last resort and Cornwall Housing will work hard in trying to support families to try and avoid an eviction. In this case however, we were left with no other choice.

’Everyone should be able to live in their homes without being in fear of their neighbours on a daily basis. Such behaviour stops local communities thriving and it is something that Cornwall Housing will not tolerate.’

Adam Fitzpatrick, Cornwall Housing Neighbourhood Enforcement Manager said: ’I hope this development will give some comfort to the neighbours and sends out a message that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.’

Angela Crow from Devon and Cornwall Police said: ’Without the support of the local community, this enforcement action would not have been possible and I would like to thank everybody who co-operated to make it happen.

’I would echo the comments of Mr Fitzpatrick in relation to the message that this action sends out to those who feel that they can behave without recrimination, as well as those blighted by such behaviour.

’Anti-social behaviour will never be tolerated by Devon and Cornwall Police, who will continue to work with partners to protect our communities.’
