A DETAILED document describing all the features within a parish church has been presented to the priest in charge.
Church recorders from The Arts Society in Liskeard presented the completed research and recording of the Church of St Mary in Sheviock to the Reverend Canon Lynn Parker.
It was the fourth church to be documented by the team. Such an endeavour can take up to four years to complete, said David Barnes of Liskeard Arts, as every last detail within the building is recorded, from tapestries and candlesticks to carvings, engravings to stained glass windows.
‘Sheviock Church has a fine set of 16th Century pew ends, which were lovingly and carefully restored in the 19th Century,’ said Mr Barnes.
‘There are also three fine 14th Century funeral effigies of the Courtenay family who became Earls of Devon.’
Copies of the extensive research and recording carried out at St Mary’s Church will be given to the Victoria and Albert Museum, and to the Diocese of Truro, said Mr Barnes.
The Arts Society in Liskeard has 128 members. The group, known as Liskeard Arts, presents a wide range of talks with nationally renowned guest speakers, on subjects covering the arts in all their forms. Non-members are also welcome to attend events.
