A teenage shelter in memory of Jesse Stevens, the 13-year-old who died almost two years ago is to be installed at the skateboard park in St Cleer.

Jesse, a former student at Liskeard School and Community College and the son of Jasmine Stevens, was a popular boy with many friends, who was described by his family as an adventurous youngster who spent much of his time attached to a skateboard.

When he died a memorial fund was set up raising some £1,000. Jesse's aunt, Amber Wallace, said: 'With the money we hoped to buy a lasting tribute that would benefit the young people of the area. St Cleer skate park provided the perfect location. St Cleer was where Jesse went to primary school and did much of his growing up before moving to Liskeard.

'After liaising with the parish council and a consultation, it was felt that a shelter would be an appropriate item for the park.

'The parish council and sports field committee, with a grant from the Queen Elizabeth 11 Fields In Trust County Fund, has been brilliant in raising a further £3,000, making the tribute possible.'

St Cleer parish council chairman John Howard said: 'The shelter will be a valuable asset to the facility and it is hoped that it will be enjoyed by the youth of the parish for many years to come.

'The council is delighted to have been able to co-ordinate and partially fund such a worthwhile memorial to Jesse.
